When I was little, (maybe 4 or 5 years old) I remember my dad getting really mad at me for writing on the walls of our house. My dad was such a peaceful and soft spoken man, so when he yelled and spanked me it made a lasting impression on me.
When my first son was about 2 years old, I remember walking in on him coloring on the walls. I started yelling at my son and saying the same things my dad said to me. Then I took a deep breath, smiled and shook my head. Last month I walked into this Sticky Situation!
My youngest son was coloring on my walls. This time I just told him "no" and he repeated "no" to me. I said "no, we do not color on wall, we color on paper.
Then the next day, I when to the store and bought him a white board and white board crayons. I want him to be artistic, just not on my walls. He loves coloring on his new white board and I love that he does not color on my walls anymore. Also when he is finished coloring, I make sure to put the white board crayons away where he cannot get to them.
