SLEEP NUMBER® m9 Bed

My hubby and I went to our local SLEEP NUMBER® bed store to try out the new innovation: the NEW SLEEP NUMBER® m9 memory foam bed.  It's exclusive LuxFit™ foam is supremely soft, breathable, and gently comforting.  We also able to see for ourselves what is our perfect sleep number, and as with most couples, our sleep numbers are different.  This means the only way we can both have a comfortable night sleep would be with a NEW SLEEP NUMBER® bed.   The sales associate was very informative and not pushy (that is just what I wanted).

What I like about SLEEP NUMBER® beds it that every curve of your body is cradled in cushioned comfort as you adjust your SLEEP NUMBER® settings to your perfect firmness.  This will definitely be on my wish list this year.

How NOT to make a minecraft cake

For my Oldest 14th birthday he wanted me to make a minecraft cake. He had this vision of a minecraft world with grass, a house with the owner in front with his trusty ax, and as the man turns around he sees a creeper.  I am not a cake decorator by any means, but I do try to make fun cake for my kids.  I think this idea was way beyond my skill set. I knew I could not let my son down so I told him I would give it a try.

Remember when your mom would say "I want to tell you these things so you will not make the same mistakes I did"? Well that is what I am doing here.  I want to tell you what I did in hopes that your Minecraft cake will turn out better than mine.  In my defense, I did not have enough time and I did not try out some of the techniques ahead of time.   If I had more time and tried some of the techniques before his party I am sure the results would be better.  The good news is the boys at his party did not care and it all tasted the same to them.

Now I have to admit I have not worked with fondant more than 3 times in my life, so I was doomed to fail from the start.  To make the Creeper and Steve I baked a cake and cut out the pieces   Then I took the pieces and froze them.  Once the cake was frozen I rolled out the fondant and covered the cake with it.  I did not realize I barely had enough fondant to cover the cake (look at the creepers feet).  I pierced the cake with dowels so that when I put them on the cake they would stand up.  I added some finishing touches to the creeper by cutting out red squares for his body and face and   I also added eye and a mouth to Steve.  I used frosting to get them to stick to the body, but did not like the way it looked.

For the minecraft scenery part of the cake I baked a 9x13 cake for the ground, and used a loaf pan for the house. I used the leftover pieces of the loaf cake to make a hill. Then I just frosted the cakes.

As you can see I have a little problem with depth perception.  Because I made the creeper and Steve first I did not think about how big they would look compared to the house or each other.  I think Steve is the main problem here. He should have been much smaller.  Buy the time I realized the flaw in my design, it was to late, I was out of fondant and I did not have time to do it over before the party started.

As you can see my boys did were fine with the cake and they just appropriated the time and energy that when in to making the cake.  All the boys at the party just wanted a delicious piece of cake to eat, and that is what they received!

Maybe I will get the courage to try to make another Minecraft cake, only this time I will plan it out better.

How to have a monster of a party.

As a member of Crowdtap I was asked to spread the word about the new movie Hotel Transylvania.

In Honor of Hotel Transylvania and the main character Mavis who is celebration her 118th birthday I wanted to invite some friends over to help me celebrate.  Because of her dad’s Dracula's strict no-human policy, Mavis isn't allowed off Hotel Translyvania’s property and could not attend our party, but that did not deter us from celebrated her birthday by inviting our friends over for a day of activities, games, and snacks!

As you know a party is not a party without the food.  So for this Monster party I made all kinds of goodies.  We had monster rice krispies treat shaped like Frankenstein and vampires.  I made homemade bat cookies.  we had chips, dip and fruit.  A birthday party would not be complete with out the cake, so I made a Jack-o-lantern cake.

I also set out some games for the kids to play.  We had monster bingo and Truth or Scare.

Just like Dracula in the movie Hotel Transylvania I had not problem entertaining these monsters. To keep the party going we had all kinds of games for the kids to play.  We played pin the nose on the pumpkin.  Here is a photo of some of the kids that gave this game a try.  They were all really close to getting the nose on the pumpkin.

To get all the kids in the spirit of the movie Hotel Transylvania we colored pictures of Mavis and her dad, Dracula.  Each monster picked a coloring page, to color or to take home and color.

Make-A-Monster cupcake:
My kids favorite party of the party was decorating cupcakes to look like monsters. I made some cupcake and frosting.  Then I took all kinds of candy and placed them in a divider tray.  Each kids frosted their own cupcake and came up with their monster creation.  Look at all these scary monster cupcake it is enough to scare you silly.

We made monster mask like the ones in the movie Hotel Transylvania.  We had to make ourselves look like Monster so we could sneak into Hotel Transylvania.

As guest we leaving the party we made goody bags for them to take home with them.  They had pencils  and other little monster items.  I was hoping the kids could use the bags to take their cupcake home with them, but they all eat their cupcakes at the party.

My house was full of monsters and fun just like Hotel Transylvania.

If you have not had a chance to see the movie Hotel Transylvania, mark you calendar  take the kids and go scare yourself silly.

Discloser: The idea for the Hotel Transylvnia Party was given to me from Crowdtap.  I receive a email with ideas and printouts for the party, but did not receive any good or monetary compensation for having the party.
